"Tom is one of the most original new artists I have heard in a long time. With his unique approach to guitar and his vocal interpretations of traditional and his original tunes, he has managed to create music that is all his own".
Woody Mann
"Defining Tom as an Acoustic guitarist is too small to convey the range of moods and styles in his playing. Established slide guitarists such as Debashish Bhattacharya and I are fans of Tom's music, finding it both expressive and refreshingly original".
Bob Brozman

I hope this finds you well: reading this page for the first time, or a return visitor. In theory there’s a regular update here, in practice I’m technophobe humankind who tries to keep a routine inside an improvised lifestyle. Playing in the background is the surreal and underground Blind brand X picking a baritone resonator with strange hypnotic minor keys; sort of repetitive but warming. He sets the scene and I’ll add no more, suffice to say, when you’ve finished here, and go find him yourselves.
It’s been busy since the last update: Some really enjoyable gigs with folk turning up who already know me, or have a CD but haven’t heard me live. Good to see people like Mark and Anni Yelland in London, Fred and Bob in Brighton, Ruth and Ted in Liverpool. Since the last update, I’ve enjoyed Crawley blues festival, Brails with Tim Porter, Wirral Guitar Festival with Woody Mann and all those other places you’ll find inside the gig guide.
Recording a session with Dave Raven was definitely one of the highlights. It's here http://blip.tv/file/2920126 and despite being spontaneous and improvised, came out like a video biography with a bit of music thrown in. The thermal vest is a bit/LOT naff though, but I never planned to be a GokWok disciple.
I reviewed a Regal resonator for Acoustic Magazine yesterday, but I haven’t increased my collection of anything musical, I wouldn’t be surprised if I have enough guitars. Yes, a word scoop: Tom Doughty has (more than) enough guitars! Santa might be bringing me David Rawlings new CD and something by Bela Fleck too; there’s so many things to still play and listen to.
2010 will see the start of my DVD recordings, both instructional and for the fun of it, improvised music and my first gig of the New Year is to be the ‘mystery guest’ instructor and performer at the first UK slide Festival on the 23rJan.
Thanks for looking at this web site and I hope to meet you at a gig someday. For me, face to face is what life is really about, not all this face broke and twattering malarkey, keyboard plonking and screen gaping.
And the best to you all too!
Tom
