The T.D sig slide has been developed by Tom over a number of years. Given his style and intracacy of playing, Tom searched for a slide which had the texture, surface and sound of glass, but was heavy. Heavy glass slides retain the right sound but to also have weight they need to be very thick and have a large external diameter. The TD sig slide is made of heavy gargue stainless steel tube, polished and with a cut glass insert covering approx, 1 third of the diameter.
Well, where do we start? Tom’s technique is borne out of necessity and is 90% is self-taught. One of his trademark sounds is using the slide on the bass strings and chord structures either side of the fretboard. Along with the ability to play two inner strings (say 3rd & 4th) together and single notes with the slide, Tom constructs a wide range of chord shapes and harmonies from the use and placing of the slide, fingerpicking technique and each tuning used.

The perceived disadvantages of playing complex notation with lap style bottleneck (without bar twists), makes it necessary to have imaginative tunings and techniques. Below are some of the common and some less common tunings that Tom uses along with examples of tunes and songs played in a particular tuning.
